Scotchtown is a part. The site has plenty of useful information,
including a lengthy history of Wallkill by the town historian. Unfortunately
the site is slow to update so be prepared to check back often to
find what you are looking for.

Orange County’s official Web site is updated regularly and
provides some basic contact information for various county departments.

Register to vote now! All you have to do is go to this site, print
out the New York State Voter Registration Form, fill it out and
mail it to: Orange County Board of Elections, 25 Court Lane, P.O.

a new Web site to help educate the public about the study of genealogical
records. The site has valuable contact info for local historians

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services has a Web
site that allows the public to search a subdirectory of Level 2
and Level 3 sex offenders. To prevent misuse of sex offender registration
information, such as the commission of a criminal act against a
registered sex offender, the site requires users to enter their
name and address before using the service.

The New York State Department of Corrections has up-to-date information
on inmates who are or who have been held in a correctional facility
operated by New York State. Everyone sentenced to state prison since
the early 1970s is listed in the database, except youthful offenders
and those who have had their convictions set aside by a court.

Based in Middletown, this new and expanding news service specializes
in accurate coverage of events and issues in the Hudson Valley.
Great for finding the latest local news online.

The Web site for Time Warner Cable’s local news station provides
the usual contact information, a programming schedule, and a long
archive of story summaries. Pretty good overall, though some areas
of the site have not been updated recently.

This is the online version of the region’s only major newspaper,
the Times Herald-Record. Covers local, national and international
news and sports. The site has been redesigned but still continues
to be rather difficult to navigate.
New
York State Department of Environmental Conservation –

Scotchtown, the Town of Wallkill, and the County of Orange are served
by the Region 3 office of the DEC in New Paltz and a sub-office
in Tarrytown. The most popular areas on the DEC Web site seem to
be the sections devoted to hunting and fishing permits, but you
can also find information on environmental regulations and enforcement.

OCLT is dedicated to preserving open space and has a new and visually
impressive Web page detailing their efforts to promote voluntary
land conservation.

Orange Environment is a county-wide environmental organization which
has been dedicated to protecting the environment in Orange County
for the past twenty-four years. On this site you can read about
the organization’s position on current environmental and development
issues in the area.

The Web site of the local chapter of the National Audubon Society
is regularly updated with information on upcoming programs and field
trips.
Pine
Bush School District – http://www.pinebushschools.org
Most kids in Scotchtown attend schools in the Pine Bush Central
School District. The district’s Web site has useful contact
information and a phone directory. You can also find out about school
closings, employment opportunities, and other current news.
Enlarged
City School District of Middletown – http://www.middletowncityschools.org
The Middletown School District is the second largest district in
the county, operating four elementary schools, two middle schools
and a high school. Not surprisingly, they have a detailed and well
organized Web site. Some children living on the west side of Scotchtown
attend schools in the Middletown District.
Craigslist: Hudson
Valley – http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org
Created in 1995 for the San Francisco Bay Area, Craigslist is a
collection of free local community classifieds and forums. In June
of 2006 a craigslist site was established for the Hudson Valley.
According to the site,
Craigslist is “a place to find jobs, housing, goods and services,
social activities, a girlfriend or boyfriend, advice, community
information, and just about anything else – all for free,
and in a relatively non-commercial environment.”
