Historic
biographies
These are the stories of past residents of Scotchtown. Many of the 19th century biographies recount the lives of men from Scotchtown who started business in the booming days of the city of Middletown. Others tell the story of the typical Scotchtown families of the time – farmers and devote members of the Presbyterian Church. I am working on a number of my own biographies and constantly updating and expanding the existing articles found below.
Jacob Mills (1746-1841) - Early and influential settler of Scotchtown George Houston (1763-1825) - Considered by some to be the founder of Scotchtown Rev. Methuselah Baldwin (1763-1847) - First Pastor of the Scotchtown Presbyterian Church Dr. David R. Arnell (1771-1826) - First doctor to serve the people of Scotchtown Moses Bull Jr. (1773-1848) - Early farmer and member of Orange County’s famous Bull family David B. Scott (1825-1909) - Sexton of the Scotchtown Church at the turn of the century
